In June 1805, Admiral Nelson led a powerful British squadron across the Atlantic in pursuit of Admiral Villeneuve and the French fleet.

Geoff Hunt is at present working on a spectacular painting depicting the arrival of HMS Victory and squadron through the Dragon's Mouth, Gulf of Paria, Trinidad.  The island at the right is the wonderfully-named Chacachacare.

Victory at least made this passage at about 5pm and was getting ready to anchor half an hour later; it must have been a real squeeze for all the following ships to get in and anchored before dark - sunset being at 6.20, with the usual very short tropical twilight afterwards. Victory is just beginning to shorten sail, rigging out the anchors, and preparing a cutter ready to launch.

Here is a preview of Geoff's 8 x 12 inch colour sketch.  (Not for sale.) The full size painting will soon be completed and available to purchase at Art Marine.  Please email Julian Thomas if you would like to register an interest.
