On the 12th May 1805 HMS Victory sailed westward with ten ships and three frigates in pursuit of the combined Franco-Spanish fleet of 17 ships. They arrived in the West Indies to find that the enemy was sailing back to Europe where Napoleon Bonaparte was waiting for them with his invasion forces at Boulogne.
Victory is seen here on the return crossing, in hot pursuit of Admiral Villeneuve.
