An unusual view of Ilfracombe in the early years of the 20th century since it depicts the southern side of the harbour an area known as The Cove . The cottages and the old shipyard are long gone to make way for carparking and a working area for commercial fishing. In the far left is a late 19th century two masted tops'l schooner and next to her a mid 19th century brigantine . Alongside is a Barry Pilot Cutter drying her staysail while two small clinker built pulling boats sit quietly on their moorings. Ilfracombe was a busy little Port in those days and much used by Bristol Channel Pilots as well as a whole host of small sailing commercial sailing ships.
