Liverpool pilot schooner number six Pioneer pounding through the tidal overfalls off South Stack lighthouse on Anglesey Island NW Wales.
Pioneer was 68ft on deck and was built at Liverpool in 1852. She worked as a pilot until 1879 and was then sold and sailed to Dakar where soon after she was sadly wrecked . The Western range of the 'Pioneer' was usually Point Lynas on Anglesey but this would occasionally be extended.
