The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 first appeared in 1941, with heavy armament and a powerful closely cowled twin-row radial engine.  Major Heinz Bär’s Fw190a of JG1 is pictured as it might have appeared in 1944. Oberstleutnant Heinz Bär is considered by many to be the Luftwaffe's greatest ace of WWII, flying over 1,000 missions from the start of the 
War to its conclusion, amassing at least 220 victories.
