The one design NY40 ‘Carronade’, leads the fleet around the leeward mark during the New York Yacht Club’s Sesquicentennial Regatta.
One design racing has been enjoyed by many New York Yacht Club members since 1896 when Nathanael Herroshoff, a member at the time, designed a series of ‘one designs’ which, for many years, were keenly raced. During the 1970s, many NYYC members wished to return to ‘one design’ class racing and it was then the NY40 was created. Designed by Doug Peterson and built by Palmer Johnson, the NY40 proved to be a popular race boat with the members as 21 were launched. They are probably considered heavy by today’s standards but, nevertheless, they have proved to be a fast yacht and are still competitively raced
Each canvas is hand-numbered and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, which is signed by the artist. Printed with lightfast inks onto fine archival-quality cotton canvas, and coated with acid-free varnish.
