Engraving after the famous portrait by John Hoppner in the Royal Collection, St. James's Palace, London, the portrait c. 1800-1801. Nelson is shown standing on shore, wearing the rear-admiral's full-dress uniform with ribands of the Bath and St. Ferdinand, the stars of the Bath, St. Ferdinand and the Crescent and the badge of St. Ferdinand. Also gold medals for St. Vincent and the Nile. Behind him is represented the Battle of Copenhagen.
This restrike engraving was made contemporaneously from the original engraving plate and printed on an original period printing press. It was then carefully hand-coloured with water colour.
