A scene from the early 1890s and the 76' Liverpool Pilot Schooner No 2 'Leader' sails smartly downriver to the mouth of the Mersey.
The Leader found lasting fame in 1881 when in a severe storm she led twelve ships in convoy to a safe anchorage.
Preparing to dock is the 10.000-ton White Star liner 'Majestic'. Built at Harland & Wolff, Belfast in 1889 the Majestic was one of the first ocean liners to have twin screws and the first to not have any auxiliary sails.
Original oil on canvas, framed.
Canvas size 20 x 30 inches, signed lower right.
