On September 15th, 1805, Lord Nelson, on board HMS Victory, departed from Portsmouth with the frigate, HMS Euryalus, in company, towards Trafalgar. They headed for the Scilly Isles hugging the Southern English coast, picking up with HMS Ajax and HMS Thunderer off Plymouth on the way. At the Scillies Lord Nelson sent Euryalus on ahead to relay news of his arrival to the British Fleet and instruct them not to display any special greeting to alert the Franco/ Spanish fleet anchored in Cadiz of his arrival.
