HMS Indefatigable was an exceptionally powerful frigate, cut down from a 64-gun ship but still carrying a 24-pounder cannon. On 13-14 January 1797 she encountered the 74-gun Droits de l'Homme. After a running fight through the night in storm conditions the French battleship was wrecked on the Brittany coast.
