Nicknamed ‘Dog Boats’, Fairmile Marine built 229 between 1942 and 1945.
 
They were larger than earlier MTB types and had a compliment of 21 men: The main variants were Motor Gun Boat (MGB) and Motor Torpedo Boat (MTB).  Mainly used by the Royal Navy to counter German E-Boats, some were used by the RAF’s Marine Branch as Long Range Air Sea Rescue Launches.
 
This painting was used to illustrate the cover of the book Allied Coastal Forces of World War II, by John Lambert & Al Ross.
