A  night passage in a small sailing vessel can be anything from awful to magical.  Here a 28ft gaff cutter based loosely on a boat the Artist once owned is enjoying the latter of the two, a full moon glittering on the water and a force 5 breeze just aft of the beam. A single reef in the mainsail would mean an easy helm and with staysail and jib pulling like horses the cutter is surging along at over 6 knots giving the lone helmsman a night passage to remember.
