‘The Pride of The Ocean – Cutty Sark’ was painted by Montague Dawson who was regarded as one of the most renowned British marine artist of the twentieth century. Dawson’s nautical surroundings during his childhood greatly influenced his artwork and he developed a keen interest in eighteenth and nineteenth century clipper and wartime sailing ships. The Cutty Sark was a tall, elegant clipper ship which has been beautifully painted in full sail travelling powerfully across the ocean with intricate details of the rigged masts and billowing sails.
