As an artist, Montague Dawson is particularly associated with the great clipper ships and the 'days of sail' of the late 19th century. However, he was an extremely versatile marine artist and also painted a wonderful collection of pictures on other maritime themes, including the conflict at sea during the Second World War, the pirates of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and a variety of more contemporary yachting scenes.
