Off Newfoundland - Bob Grimson

Here is one of the Portmadoc three-masted tops'l schooners, often referred to as Western ocean yachts, leaving the coast of Newfoundland. These brave little ships battled back and forth across the North Atlantic winter and summer in the salt cod trade which was a hard living. This whole area is frequently beset with fog and I have shown the weather as fog begins to clear as two local fishing schooners close in towards the land.
